As an eye doctor and the owner of Chagrin Valley Optometrist since 1988, Dr. Jurcak has treated thousands of patients in the Chagrin Valley area. He combines experience with thoroughness and personalized care in every patient encounter. He enjoys providing full scale comprehensive eye examinations to adults and children alike including the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease and contact lens management. Dr. Jurcak’s area of interest is with individuals with special vision needs such as focusing, visual processing, and eye motor problems. In designing a vison therapy program he is able to work with these patients to help them maximize their functional vision to gain a better quality of life. His work is proof that vision means more than just what you can see on the eye chart.
After completing undergraduate work at The Ohio State University, Dr. Jurcak went on there to earn his doctorate in optometry in 1986. He is member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the Optometric Extension Program. He resides in Burton with his wife Sylvia and has three grown children Andrew, Jessica and Noelle. Dr. Jurcak remains highly active in the community. He is a Cleveland native and an active member of the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club. He served as its president from 2008 to 2009. He is also board member of the Geauga County Historical Society.
Dr. Lewis became a partner with Dr. Jurcak in 2015 after merging her Beachwood practice into the Chagrin Valley Optometrists location. She is fully committed to lifetime whole eye health and preventative care. Her specialty interest is geared toward the pediatric population with an emphasis on myopia control. However she remains dedicated to comprehensive primary eye care including contact lens management as well as the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease.
Dr. Lewis received her O.D. from the Illinois College Of Optometry and a B.S. from John Carroll University. She is an active member of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control and Women of Vision. Outside of the office, her life revolves around her family including husband Michael and her two children Holden and Avery. Their two Boston Terriers, also part of the family, provide hilarious comic relief at home. As in her practice, she is passionate about exercise, proper nutrition and healthy living. Her fitness commitment continues today with regular classes at Orangetheory Fitness and running.
Dr. Patrick Shepard joined the Chagrin Valley Optometrists team in June of 2021. It is extra special to have him with us as he is carrying on in the family line being Dr. Jurcak’s nephew. He is excited to provide full scope optometry to patients of all ages in the Chagrin Valley area. His care emphasizes the critical role that our systemic health plays in preserving and enhancing our functional vision. Dr. Shepard understands the importance of strong communication and education between the patient and doctor, especially with contact lens wear and managing ocular diseases.
Dr. Shepard was born and raised in Parma Heights, OH. He received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from Ohio University in 2017 and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in May of 2021. In his free time, Dr. Shepard loves spending time outdoors with activities such as hiking and biking. Shortly after Michele graduated Eastlake North High School in 1985, she began working as an optician at The Eyeglass Factory alongside her mother, who introduced Michele to optics while she worked there as an optician. She obtained her optician’s license in 1992, and has continued to work and excel in her field, most recently landing here at Chagrin Valley Optometrists in September of 2015. In just half a year after starting her position, she became the office manager and has actively lead the team since. Aside from her administrative duties, Michele takes pride in patient care, which entails finding the best frame and lens fit for patients, making sure to take into consideration comfort and functionality to fit their specific lifestyle. She specializes in quality adjustments and any aftercare with which patients may need further assistance.
Outside of her life at the office, Michele loves cooking and baking homemade meals from scratch, and bringing leftovers into the office for everyone else to enjoy as well. In the summers, she plants a small garden of different vegetables to aid those homemade foods and warding off hungry animals that like the snacks as they pass through the yard. She loves all outdoor activities with her family, including bike riding, hiking, and generally spending time in nature. Her two senior dogs help keep her hands full in her spare time.
Rebecca began her experience with optometry in January of 2018, having been recommended by a member of the Chagrin Valley Optometrist team to come onto the staff as a technician. However, she eagerly took it upon herself to learn the ins and outs of the office, practice, and care of the patients, quickly working her way up to assistant manager and main optician. In addition to that position, Rebecca also takes on many more responsibilities as a paraoptometric. Such a title includes working all front desk positions, edging lenses with our in-house equipment, and pre-testing as needed.
Rebecca received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of Akron in 2016. She aspires to further her education to eventually become a physician’s assistant or an embryologist, her place here serving as a suitable stepping stone to working in a medical office environment in the future. In her spare time outside of the practice, she exercises her interest in the arts including reading, drawing, and painting, activities she has carried throughout her childhood since she was little.
Jaclyn has spent her entire career in the optical industry and received her optician’s license in 2011. She enjoys helping patients select the best eyewear to fit their needs, as well as educate them on the finest products the industry has to offer. In her free time, Jaclyn finds joy in outdoor activities, such as kayaking, trail walking, and bike riding. Family time is very important, as well as the rights and welfare of animals. She is fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer at a farm sanctuary every week.
